McKinney Deliveries Speech to Seoul English Study Association (SESA) Members

SESA, Shindang, Seoul, Korea – March 22, 2007 – SESA members were treated with an evening of lively discussion with Mr. Steven B. McKinney, the President and Founder of McKinney Consulting, an executive search and leadership consulting firm based in Seoul, South Korea.

Mr. McKinney spoke on the topic of “You Are the CEO of Your Own Career”. During his speech to the crowd of nearly 150 he spoke about how times have changed in the employment market in Korea and globally. He reminded the audience that “…life-time employment no longer exists, there is no “iron rice bowl”. You should manage your own career was his main theme. It’s one thing to know what to do but more valuable to know “how to do something.

He also provided, “9 Career Planning Tips” that would help them manager their career whether they were just starting a career or a seasoned executive. They included:

1) Created your “My career Planning” filing system.
2) Gather and save career planning tips.
3) Keep your resume updated.
4) Create and maintain a daily professional work journal of achievements.
5) Training on how to document achievements verbally and written.
6) Self evaluation, self administered study.
7) Invest in you. Ways to be constantly improving your “employability” value.
8) Plan for success
9) Take action

Mr. McKinney stated: “I really enjoyed the evening with the SESA folks. Their questions were excellent and right on target. I believe they understand the concepts that I tried to convey based upon our conversations at the reception and based upon the amount of e-mails and telephone calls that I have received from them since.”

Seoul English Study Association (SESA) is a non-profit organization sponsored by a group of business owners and professionals in the Seoul area. SESA is dedicated to helping Korean nationals improve their English skills by listening to lectures.

Many prominent members of the Seoul community, who come from English speaking countries are chosen as guest speakers. The lectures take place on the fourth Thursday of every month. The entire program lasts approximately 90 minutes including the lecture, questions for the speaker and a small reception.
