BYU-Hawaii Provides 3 Forums to Hear Steven B. McKinney Speak

BYU-Hawaii -- April 14-15, 2006 -- Brigham Young University-Hawaii, one of the highest ranked Universities provided a forum for its students to hear from entrepreneur and executive search professional Steven B. McKinney. Mr. McKinney, President & Founder of McKinney Consulting, Inc. presented lectures to 3 different audiences on, ”Hire Education: Marketing Your Skills to Employers”,  “What Do Employers Look for From Today’s Graduates?”, and “The Basics of Working in Korea: Who, What, Where and How?”

Mr. McKinney focused on the importance of organizing a job hunting marketing campaign like you would for any other assignment.  Too many people, experienced and inexperienced jump into the job market unprepared.  Often times you only get one shot at an employer and if you blow it and go in unprepared your chances of success are almost zero. Specific tips were shared on what employers are looking for, resume creation; formatting styles and rationale for their use; interviewing techniques and salary negotiation strategies.

For the eighth consecutive year U.S. News and World Report Magazine has ranked BYU-Hawaii among the top tier of best comprehensive bachelor's schools in the western United States in several categories of its 2007 edition of "America's Best Colleges" survey.

The results show BYU-Hawaii ranked as the western region's number-one comprehensive college-bachelor's in the magazine's annual best value category, number-three for its students having the "least debt," and number-four overall in the west.

BYU-Hawaii continues to bring in professionals from industry and in particular from the countries in the South Pacific and Asia were the majority of the students come from.  Ms. Kim Austin, BYU-Hawaii’s Career Counselor says, “We encourage and hope that our students will return to their home land and make major contributions in their societies.”
