CEO Gives University Students Lecture and Homework

Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea -- April 07, 2005 -- Hanyang University, one of Korea’s top institutions of higher learning, continued its successful CEO Special Lecture Series of inviting multinational CEO’s as guest lecturers to offer their insights on international business topics. Steven B. McKinney, President & Founder of McKinney Consulting, Inc. spoke to the International Division of the University about career choices and in particular how to successfully land a job with multinational companies.
Mr. McKinney said, “At the senior levels of management there is a shortage of talent. This is often referred to as the “War for Talent”.  However, at the beginning of your career, right after graduation students face a different type of war.  This is a war to just get your size 10 foot inside the door!”   With so many graduates, so many degrees how can one get noticed? What are the best and worst ways to locate a job?  These and other questions were explored in Mr. McKinney’s lecture.

Professor Younkyoo Kim, Division of International Studies requested to have the lecture focused in a way that the students would be given an assignment to write a resume for a grade.  He figured as in all good classes if the students were held accountable they would take the subject matter more seriously. In addition, having a professional executive recruiter on hand to teach the tricks of his trade he felt was the perfect setting in this CEO Lecture Series to try something different that would bring instant value to the students.  It is this constant striving for excellence and change that makes Hanyang University one of the top Universities in Korea.
