Steven B. McKinney Speaks On 21st Century Leadership

Over 200 MNC CEO’s Debate Global Leadership in the 21st Century

Plaza Hotel Seoul, Korea -- November 9, 2005 -- The Korean Academic Society in Business Administration (KASBA), a group of who’s who in Korea’s academia of higher learning held its fall symposium on the theme of “the roles & responsibilities of global business leaders in the 21st century."  Steven B. McKinney, President & Founder of McKinney Consulting, Inc. spoke about the roles and responsibilities of CEO's in multinational corporations and how they will evolve over time.

Speaking on the topic of the day, Steve McKinney said, “…the CEO of the 21st century is a Creative Destroyer.  Companies of the future must forget they exist in their present form.  For their form is transitory and always changing. Their form of today will become the legacy of tomorrow. This process of Creative Destruction is the essential fact about capitalism. So creatively destructive CEOs practice 'shaping' as a daily task. The goal of creative destruction is to do those things that the market would have done anyway, but to do them on your own terms, on your own time.”

Also speaking at the first session of the symposium was Mr. Kim, Hyo-Joon, President of BMW Korea from a Korean perspective; Mr. Frans Hampstink, President of the European Chamber of Commerce gave a European perspective; while Mr. Nobuya Takasugi, Chairman of Fuji Xerox and President of the Seoul Japan Club gave a Japanese perspective.

The second session of the symposium covered the roles and responsibilities of multinational CEO’s on the Korean economy and society.  Participants from various organizations participated including Ms. Tami Overby, President & CEO of Amcham-Korea as a guest panelist.

Mr. Dong-Sung Cho, Chair of the Korean Academic Society in business Administration and Professor of Strategy, Seoul National University said, “The symposium was a great success and the speakers were great!  We had over 200 CEO’s in attendance representing multinational companies based in Korea and many educators as well.”
